SCYL

scyllogoWelcome to the SCYL!

The SCYL (Sheffield Christian Youth League) is a 5-a-side football league for young people across Sheffield.  We want everyone to see how much better it is to play football with a Christian ethos in the middle with respect for each other.  We started in January 2009 and are still going today!

We are near the end of our 25/26 season at SCYL.  The league currently has 4 age catagories (Y4-6, Y7-9, Y9-11, Y11-13).

Consent forms

If your child is involved in SCYL on Friday evenings, it's great to have them with us!  We need parents/guardians to fill out a consent form for their child so we have emergency details and the right permissions.  No consent form means no football.

Cost

We don't want money to be a barrier to young people playing football and have been offering free football to young people for over 16 years. However in recent times our costs have skyrocketed with pitch hire going up over 60% in the last 2 years.

We are asking if parents would consider making a regular monthly donation of £10 to support the SCYL while their child is playing.

You fill out the form and then use the details to set up a standing order on your internet banking.  Please use SCYL as a reference.

Volunteering

SCYL cannot work without volunteers, especially helping referee games.  It's a great way to give back to the community.

We need parents and young people alike to help volunteer as referees, to look after teams, to welcome people in or help with administration on the night or during the week.

Young people will only be helping with younger age groups and it can be part of their Duke Of Edinburgh award.

Please get in touch if you have any questions: chrisnall@fcrust.uk

Young leaders please fill out the form below:

How does SCYL work?

Each week there is one fixture of 20 minutes a half with fixtures and tables on this website.

Teams can be started up by local churches or organisations, young people themselves or even parents.

The league takes place on one night, at the same time and same place. We want to make it as easy as possible for you to bring young people along to play in an organised football league. You won't have to organise matches, book pitches or sort out referees. Just commit to the league and bring your team down each week.  We want the league to be free for players so money is not a barrier to young people playing football.

SCYL Game

We want football to be played with a positive attitude; where people give their best and are positive towards teammates, opposition and officials. We aim for each team, especially in the younger leagues to have a team leader.  We want to encourage and equip each team leader to grow and empower their young people  There is no strict plan of how this is done, each group of young people can be completely different and we want to release leaders to give opportunity for emotional, physical, and spiritual development of young people.

The league is a taster of Futsal, a 5-a-side small sided football that originates from South America and encourages players to improve passing and skills making it more enjoyable to play in.

We are able to continue running thanks to our amazing partners.

When is it?

The league is based at Goodwin Sports Centre on a Friday night in term time between 5pm and 8pm.  The Sports Sheffield venue can be found on Northumberland Road, Sheffield, S10 2TY.

If you head down the drive to the bottom and head right through the building to the other side or round the outside of the building.  You'll find us on the 5-a-side pitches.
